Q: What is Botox?

A: Botox injections are a group of medications that use various forms of the Botulinum Toxin to temporarily paralyze muscle activity. The Botulinum toxin injections block certain chemical signals from nerves, mostly signals that cause muscles to contract, thus relaxing facial muscles that cause the wrinkles. Botox injections are noted primarily for the ability to reduce the appearance of some facial wrinkles. They are also used to treat some problems such as repetitive neck spasms excessive sweating, overactive bladder and lazy eye. Botox injections may also help prevent chronic migraines in some people.

Q: How does Botox work?

A: The Botulinum toxin injections block certain chemical signals from nerves, mostly signals that cause muscles to contract, thus relaxing facial muscles that cause the wrinkles.

Q: What areas can be treated by Botox?

  • Frown lines between eyebrows

  • Crow’s feet (the lines that fan out from the corners of the eye)

  • Forehead furrows

Q: How should I prepare for the procedure?

A: No preparation necessary.

Q: How long does each treatment take?

A: There is a one-hour consultation prior to scheduling the first treatment, so that you and the doctor can discuss a treatment plan best for you. Treatment itself is quick, usually under a half hour.

Q: How many injections should I expect?

A: The amount of injections needed depends on many factors, including the extent of the area being treated. This will be discussed with the doctor prior to your treatment at your consultation.

Q: How long is the recovery time for Botox injections?

A: You should expect to resume to your normal daily activities right after the procedure. However, no exercise 24 hours after injections.

Q: When will I see results?

A: 1-2 weeks after your treatment

Q: How long does Botox last?

A: 3-4 months. To maintain the effect of Botox injections, you’ll need regular follow up injections.

Q: What are the possible side effects/risks of receiving Botox?

A: Botox injections are safer when performed by an experienced doctor.

Side effects may occur:

  • Pain, swelling, bruising at injection site

  • Headache or flu like symptoms

  • Droopy eyelid or cocked eyebrows

  • Crooked smile or drooling

  • Eye dryness or excessive tearing

Q: How much does Botox cost?

A: $10 per unit- during your consultation the doctor will discuss with you the clinical amount recommended.

Q: Do men receive Botox treatments?

A: Yes!!
